$80K held · The AI trade cracked · 10/10 eve
Tape as of 2:00am CT · Binance & Hyperliquid perps · 24h · liquidations via Coinglass
📣The slate
- BTC kissed the big round number and bounced. The dip got bought, barely.
- Longs got wiped yesterday, shorts are getting wiped tonight. Both sides bleeding.
- The AI trade cracked on an OpenAI revenue headline. Chips red, Oracle red, SoftBank red.
- ETF money left for a second straight day. The bid is tired.
- Zcash held better than ETH and SOL again. Privacy is the only alt with a bid.
- Pump is bleeding into the launchpad flip. Memes fried, Fartcoin excepted.
- Dalio called the AI bubble and Burry's shorts worked for a day. Bears get one.
- Tomorrow is the anniversary of the biggest liquidation day ever. Everyone knows it.
📉The tape
Thursday was a long flush, overnight was a bid. BTC tagged 80,345 in US hours, a year to the week after 10/10, then bought back to the 82s once Trump ruled out new Iran strikes and oil backed off. ETH and SOL did not recover the same way.
| Perp | Price | 24h | OI 24h | Funding/8h |
| BTC | 82,513 | −0.4% | −4.0% | 0.0068% |
| ETH | 2,496 | −2.7% | −4.8% | 0.0012% |
| SOL | 110.6 | −4.2% | −1.7% | — |
| HYPE | 85.7 | −1.8% | 0.0% | 0.0100% |
| ZEC | 1,224 | −1.3% | +2.4% | 0.0051% |
Where it hit (24h, Coinglass): ETH $284M longs / $61M shorts, BTC $221M / $42M, SOL $60M / $5M, ZEC $26M / $5M, HYPE $13M / $0.3M. ETH got rekt at six times BTC's rate relative to size.
The last 12h flipped: $83M of shorts liquidated vs $15M of longs. The bounce is a squeeze. Taker buy ratio 0.49, funding under neutral everywhere but HYPE.
Mood: de-risked, not capitulated. OI is bleeding, funding is flat, and the anniversary is tomorrow. That is a market waiting for a reason.
🏦Macro
Nasdaq-100 −1.4% Thursday, worst day in seven weeks; S&P −0.5% to 7,785, second red day off records; chips index −3.4%; Dow flat. Futures bounced early: S&P +0.3%, Nasdaq +0.5%. 10Y around 5.2%, 30Y near 5.6%, 2002 highs, and that is the real ceiling on every multiple in the market. Fed minutes Wednesday: the September hike to 3.75–4.00% was unanimous, median wants one more in 2026, but a 29k payroll print cut October hike odds to about 20%. Oct 28 is a hold, December is live. Brent $101.8, WTI $90.5 after Trump's "no strikes" line cooled the tanker war. Gold 4,195 (+1.7%) and silver 60.3 (+1.8%): everything that is not a stock caught a bid.

Big semis, big AI

| SOXL | 150.3 | −3.0% | CRWV | 83.8 | −4.1% |
Memory and the OpenAI-exposed names took it (ORCL, CRWV, NBIS). Mega caps shrugged. Disgusting chart on SOXL, down three days.
Defense
PLTR 198.9 (+3.2%), the only AI name green overnight. LMT/NOC/RTX not perp-listed; cash open.
Consumer & crypto-adjacent
CRCL 82.5 (+3.3%) · MSTR 155.0 (+1.9%) · HOOD 108.7 (+0.4%) · COIN 175.1 (−1.3%, OI +51%). Crypto equities outperformed crypto; someone is loading COIN into the CFTC rulebook. Delta reports pre-market, consensus around $2 EPS on $17.7B revenue, guide matters more than the print.
₿Bitcoin
- Range 80,345–83,245. $80K held on the first touch. Reclaim 83.2k and Thursday is a wick; lose 80k and there is air to the June lows.
- ETF flows (Farside): −$485M Wednesday (IBIT −$208M, FBTC −$105M), −$244M Thursday (FBTC −$197M, IBIT only −$6M). October is now −$510M net. Two days of selling, and IBIT holders already stopped.
- Positioning: Binance OI −4% on the day, funding 0.0068%, taker ratio 0.49. Leverage is being removed, not added. Nobody is levered long into the anniversary, which is quietly the bull case.
- 10/10 is tomorrow. Last year: $19B liquidated, ATH $126,199 four days earlier. We are ~35% below it with a fraction of the funding.
- The why per the street: oil and yields pulling money from risk, CLARITY dead, midterms, and fast hands front-running the anniversary. Fine. Price still bounced.

- STRK 0.0683. Only thing ripping: OI +283% on $68M Hyperliquid volume. strkBTC fee incentives (Oct 2) plus the v0.14.4 upgrade (Oct 5); 127M token unlock lands Oct 15. Chase at your own risk.
- NEAR 4.85, −13% on $414M volume with OI −20%: a straight long flush, no headline. Cooked until proven otherwise.
- VVV 22.9 and MET 0.43 down 8–13% with OI +21% and +15%: shorts pressing into the hole, not longs leaving. Squeeze candidates if BTC holds 82.
- LIT 3.71, +3.7% with OI up. The only perp-DEX token green while HYPE bleeds. Looks great.
- ENA 0.216 (−2.6%, OI −13%), MON 0.0246 (−6%), XMR 545 (−2.7%): privacy pair split, ZEC holding and XMR not.
- SOL 110.6, −4.2%, underperformed again. Samsung is adding USDC on Solana to US Galaxy devices from late October; the chart does not care yet.
🐸Memes
| Perp | Price | 24h | OI 24h |
| FARTCOIN | 0.1671 | +4.2% | +23% |
| TRUMP | 1.864 | +0.4% | +0.4% |

| PURR | 0.1166 | −7.0% | −9% |
| CASHCAT | 0.1124 | −8.1% | −6% |
Memes are fried. Fartcoin is the only meme with buyers, and it is doing it with OI rising. Everything else bled OI into the drop: PUMP −23%, PENGU −20%, SPX −16%. That is longs giving up, not shorts winning.
Trenches: PUMP did $309M of volume while falling 6%; the launchpad token is the sector proxy and it is red. Bonk.fun has been taking launch share again (single source). Launchpad trade is nobody right now.
🛡Zcash
- 1,224, range 1,112–1,257. Wicked to 1,112 in the US flush, back above 1,220 overnight: relative strength vs ETH and SOL for a third day. Looks fine.
- OI +2.4% while price fell, Binance OI $614M, $26M longs vs $5M shorts rekt: shorts are building into this. Funding 0.0051%. $2.65B Binance volume, the busiest alt on the board.
- Grayscale's ZEC ETF sits around $1B; most of that is price, real net inflows ~$306M since Aug 25. Grayscale filed a ZCSH High Income version; 21Shares launched Europe's first physically backed ZEC ETP.
- Zcon7 Oct 27–29 in Cancún, Zcash turns 10 on Oct 28. Shielded pool ~30% of supply.
💧HYPE / Hyperliquid
- 85.7, range 82.57–87.69, funding exactly 0.01%, OI $1.72B flat on the day. Down ~7% from the unlock-day high.
- The Oct 6 unlock: 3.75M HYPE (~$330M) sold OTC to one institutional buyer; the 9.92M figure was the full schedule, not the release. No exchange inflows seen yet. That buyer's behaviour is the thing to watch into the weekend.
- HIP-3 is the venue now. WTI perp $518M, Nasdaq-100 proxy $480M, Brent $348M, Micron $316M, SanDisk $238M in 24h. The top five HIP-3 markets did more volume than ETH on Hyperliquid.
- Flows: Bitwise's BHYP keeps buying in $10M clips. Payward (Kraken) US-entry talks still the medium-term catalyst.
🤖AI & pre-IPO
- The trigger: a report that OpenAI's annualized revenue is running near $50B, not the $70B that had circulated. The gap reads as accounting: Anthropic books cloud-marketplace sales gross, OpenAI nets Microsoft's cut. OpenAI's CRO is telling staff Anthropic overstates its own run rate by $8B. The market sold the headline first and read the footnote later.
- Chips cash close Thursday: chips index −3.4%, ORCL and CRWV led the OpenAI-exposed names lower. HIP-3 overnight (table above) says nobody bought the dip yet except PLTR and DELL.
- SPCX and the pre-IPO perps: SpaceX, public since June (Nasdaq: SPCX), $166.5 (−0.5%) on $1.46B perp volume, OI +27%, holding well above the $135 IPO price. OpenAI perp $1,665 (−2.6%, wicked to 1,599). Anthropic perp $2,026 (−1.1%); S-1 is in, roadshow talk for mid-October.
- Dalio (Forbes CEO conference, Singapore, Wed): AI is a "classic bubble" nearing its bursting point, debt-funded capex meeting rising rates. Said 24 hours before the OpenAI tape. Lucky or right, same trade.
- Nvidia ships its first Arm-based RTX Spark PCs this month. Tesla Q3 is Oct 21.
🗞Headlines
- CFTC drops the first federal crypto rulebook (Regulation CTX + CAM, Oct 5): a new "crypto asset market" exchange class that can offer retail leverage through FCMs; "actual delivery" means you hold the keys. It exists because CLARITY died 49–50. 60-day comment window. Bullish COIN/HOOD, bearish offshore perps. Trade.
- Burry's shorts worked for a day: NVDA, MU, SOXX, CAT, PLTR, TSLA plus Nasdaq-100 puts, calling a 30% semis correction. Thursday was his. PLTR +3% overnight says the market is not conceding.
- Siberian plague scare: a 28-year-old Irkutsk anti-plague lab worker died after breaking a vial of live bacteria; ~197 contacts isolated, hospitals quarantined. Rospotrebnadzor says tests show no plague; Buryatia's governor said the opposite; the White House is "monitoring". Tail risk, not a trade yet.
- Trump × Anthropic: private White House dinner with the Anthropic CEO after a Trump-ally memo branded him the face of AI "doomerism"; Mythos-access talks called "productive". The IPO needs exactly this calm. Sentiment read.
- Xbox cuts 3,200 jobs and sheds Double Fine, Ninja Theory, Compulsion and Undead Labs in its biggest restructure ever; GTA VI (Nov 19) is eating the whole fall slate. Gaming sector = one game. Cooked.
- SF real estate: median $1.7M, rents +23% y/y, a $70M estate sold to an AI buyer, a third of Bay Area purchases all-cash. The OpenAI and Anthropic IPO cash has not even landed yet. Generational.
- Collectibles: a 1952 Topps Mantle reportedly sold for $12.6M, the most ever for a card (single source), after a $5.9M Wagner in August; eBay card singles ran $290M in July. Cards are in a bull market while alts are not. Noted.
- Vlad sold $31M of HOOD (Sept 21 filing) after $44M in July; 5.5M kids are in Trump accounts with Robinhood as sole trustee. Insider selling into strength. Noted.
- Europe tightens: ESMA gave crypto firms three months to drop non-MiCA stablecoins; Greece floated a 10% crypto capital-gains tax. Not our problem until it is.
